¡Bienvenidos! Welcome to Spanish at St Mary Magdalene & St Stephen's CE Primary School!

We believe in the importance of introducing a foreign language into the primary school curriculum. Language education enriches children’s educational experience and provides an excellent opportunity to develop their intercultural understanding as well as promoting values based on respect, tolerance and equality.
Each week, the children from Year 1 to Year 6 have an hour long lesson with our specialist Spanish teacher, Ms Rodriguez. Children enjoy practising their language skills through fun activities in a range of cross-curricular contexts which in turn develop their self-confidence and creativity.

Spanish lessons consist of an appropriate balance of spoken and written language. Lessons at primary level lay the foundations for further foreign language learning at Key Stage 3 and beyond. At the end of primary education, children will be able to understand and communicate simple ideas in speech and writing, using familiar language and their knowledge of phonology, grammatical structures and vocabulary.
